Specials for 420 and the National Cannabis Festival

What is “420”?

The story goes that the term “420” (pronounced four-twenty), was coined back in 1971 by a group of High School kids who would gather after school at 4:20pm for fellowship and to consume cannabis. This decades-old code term has since augmented into what is now a celebration of cannabis advocacy, cannabis consumption, and cannabis culture. This celebration falls on April 20th (4/20) of every year.

This year, MWC will celebrate all of those things, but above all, we want to celebrate you!

DC Reaches 4,000 Medical Marijuana Patients, Eyeing 10,000

This week, the DC Medical Marijuana Program surpassed 4,000 registered patients (4,026 to be exact). This is a tremendous achievement, considering just one year ago there were 771 registrants, and two years ago exactly the program had just launched.

If you had asked me last summer how big I thought the program would be, my answer would have been half of the current headcount, and that was my optimistic view.

Let’s highlight the biggest drivers for this 400% growth over the past year:

In August 2014, the Mayor signs legislation that waives the short-list of qualifying conditions and transfers authority to physicians to determine who needs cannabis.A ground swell of general ...

WASHINGTON, D.C.: District Growers today publicly launches the first medical-cannabis beverage to be sold in Washington DC. “More…” is a signature line of 5 fresh cold-pressed raw fruit and vegetable juice beverages designed to provide patients with a nutrient-dense alternative to smoking and vaporizing medical cannabis.

“Many patients served by DC cannabis dispensaries treat their chronic conditions through the use of medical cannabis,” said Corey Barnette, co-owner of District Growers, “Not every patient is able to medicate through their lungs. The fusion of our high-quality cannabis with the highest quality juice achievable provides an important alternative.”

As the Marijuana Policy Project reports:

On July 29, 2014 D.C. Mayor Vince Gray signed the Medical Marijuana Expansion Emergency Amendment Act of 2014 — legislation that expands and improves upon the District’s medical marijuana program! D.C. physicians may now recommend marijuana for any debilitating condition they think would respond favorably to the therapeutic use of marijuana.

Any DC resident can register for the medical cannabis program as long as they have a physician that recommends it for them. And we can help.

Metropolitan Wellness Center has a network of doctors who are writing recommendations for DC residents every day. If you are a DC resident and want to learn more, get started here.
