Our Team And Mission

Meet the talent that is building Metropolitan Wellness Center.

Mike Cuthriell

President & Founder
Michael Cuthriell founded Metropolitan Wellness Center in 2011 and serves as President. Mike remains focused on the business development and overall strategic direction of the dispensary, with the goal of cultivating a team and a boutique environment that delivers a high-end customer experience in a meaningful way. With a firm belief in the medicinal benefits that cannabis has to offer, MWC serves as a vehicle to promote and educate cannabis as a therapy for a variety of conditions.

Like many, Mike’s interest in the cannabis field stems from the experience of seeing close family and friends battle terminal illness and the deteriorating quality of life that accompanies that battle.

Washington D.C. represents a symbolic location for medical cannabis initiatives to help drive the conversation nationwide. Metropolitan Wellness Center is his first effort to contribute to that progress and aims to be a leading institution in the nation’s capital.

Mike graduated from George Mason University with a BS in Marketing, and formerly worked for startups in education technology.

Vanessa West

General Manager
Vanessa West serves as the General Manager in charge of all operations and member care at Metropolitan Wellness Center. She brings a combined total of 10 years dispensary management and retail experience to MWC.

Before MWC, Vanessa managed both San Diego Medical Collective and Chi Holistic Collective, two leading medical cannabis dispensaries in San Diego, CA. While there she acted briefly as a Board Member of the Patient Care Association (the association of medical marijuana collectives and cooperatives in San Diego), helping to organize the first ever held medical marijuana hospitality suite at the 2012 California State Democratic Convention.

Her credentials include certifications in Medical Marijuana Cultivation from Otherside Farms in Orange County, CA., as well as completion of D.C.'s mandatory Medical Marijuana Certification & Training Program administered by Americans for Safe Access. Vanessa holds a BA in Communications from Wilberforce University and completed labor relations undergraduate course work at the City University of New York-Manhattan.

Kathryn Rust

Assistant Manager
Kathryn Rust serves as the Assistant Manager in charge of executing operational initiatives at Metropolitan Wellness Center, including the support of MWC's members. Kathryn brings a valuable skill set due to her additional role as Manager at District Growers Medicinal Cannabis Cultivation Center in Washington D.C. Her exposure to both the cultivation practices and the dispensary operations allows her to speak fluently about the cannabis that will be made available to MWC's members. Since 2004, Kathryn has dedicated herself personally and professionally to the medical cannabis industry, working as both a Member Specialist and a Cultivation Consultant in dispensaries in southern California.

Kathryn graduated from San Diego State University with a BA in Biology. She then went on to graduate from Mueller Holistic College as a certified Holistic Health Practitioner. She has earned her certificate of completion in the D.C. Medical Marijuana Training Program facilitated by Americans for Safe Access. Her desire to be a part of the emerging industry in D.C., and her passion for serving medical marijuana patients, led her to move here from southern California.

Jamee Garland

Member Specialist
Poncho Popcorn is the second-self personification of a woman born Jamee Garland. She was born and educated in the District of Columbia, gaining a B.A. from Howard University. After Tuesday 9/11/01, Poncho heard a calling and became a political activist; organizing for homeless rights. Collective living and APOC organizing led her to working for voters rights. Seeing felons being denied basic American rights, Jamee focused on fighting full time for ex-offenders, most of whom began their criminal records with a simple marijuana arrest.

In 2013 she became a pivotal member of DCMJ.org. In 2014 DCMJ organized the public, petitioned and lobbied elected officials, successfully for the legalization of Marijuana.

Evelyn Reisenwitz

Member Concierge
Evelyn was born and raised in Alabama. She studied political science at Oglethorpe University in Atlanta and moved up to Arlington, VA after graduating in 2012. Although she had discovered cannabis in college, it wasn’t until after graduating that she started seriously researching cannabis and learning about it’s healing potential.

As she learned more she realized that the emerging legal markets across the country represented a unique opportunity to combine her love for cannabis and customer service. She joined Metropolitan Wellness Center in 2015 as a Member Specialist and now focuses on guiding members through the renewal process. She prefers sativa strains, loves dogs and cats, and listens to a lot of podcasts.

Nia Cervera

Product Specialist
Nia Cervera was born in Mt. Vernon, New York and raised right outside of the nation’s capital in Mitchellville, Maryland. She is a proud Alum of Hampton University where she received both her B.S. and M.B.A. With ambitions of becoming a serial entrepreneur, she is currently honing her business acumen by serving as a Financial Analyst by day and a professional marijuana product specialist and bud-tender by night. Her pleasures of working in the medical marijuana industry include learning/teaching the many benefits of medical cannabis and changing the negative stigma and connotations often associated with marijuana. Nia loves Sativa strains that fit her active lifestyle. When she is not working she can be found tucked in a corner reading a book, or outside skateboarding, snowboarding or surfing!

Kyle Peebles

Product Specialist
Kyle hails from the south side of Chicago and loves his Chicago sports teams. He enjoys a good book, museum exhibits, and being outdoors in nature. Kyle's studies brought him to DC where he studied psychology at Howard University. His life goal has always been to help others. MWC offers a unique opportunity to do so. As a product specialist at MWC, Kyle's mission is to provide top quality information and advice in our member's search for medical wellness.

She is well known in the DC metropolitan area for being a patient advocate, a caregiver for veterans, and enlightening communities that are most affected by the drug war on the efficacy of cannabis use. Her advocacy work started with a cannabis blog in 2011 followed by volunteering with the Maryland chapter of NORML. • “Everyone is super nice at MWC. Not just regular customer service nice, but just plain cool. Everyone is super knowledgeable, and they remember your face which always feels great. I am happy I chose this dispensary. They were super helpful as I went through the application process, and I called with lots of annoying questions. The recording listing the strains every day is super helpful, and they are great at keeping it up to date as their inventory changes. The entire staff is also super aware of what is going on with the MMJ movement in the district, and have been a great resource.”

Partnerships

Metropolitan Wellness Center seeks to engage in smart expansion, both in cannabis technology ventures as well as by entering well regulated markets presenting solid growth opportunities. In many cases we work to build partnerships with local, new and experienced entrepreneurs. In doing so, we seek to form the following types of partnerships:

  • Tech. Cannabis technology plays a critical role in the progression and maturity of our industry. Our decade-plus experience in software and services, combined with our operation acumen for cannabis cultivation and retail, offers a unique opportunity to collaborate in the development of emerging technologies in the cannabis space. This includes conceptualizing, product and development management, plus full execution and delivery to the marketplace.

  • Lead or Secondary Bidder. While MWC pursues bids as a stand-alone institution in certain markets, we often seek on-the-ground partner professional(s) that have either medical experience, substantial in-market access to policy makers, and/or a solid passion for patient care. When bidding as the lead bidder, we offer our capital and human resources, industry access and proprietary methods in partnership with our on-the-ground professionals to deliver a successful bid. We then train and support our partner in the start-up and ongoing operation of a business wherein the partner is also a stakeholder. As a secondary bidder, we offer our experience, industry access and proven methods in support of the bid led by the on-the-ground partner. Given a successful bid, we then seek to support the operations of our lead partner by leveraging technology, human resources and experience in support of a successful launch and ongoing growth.

  • Advisor. We recognize that not every opportunity is a perfect fit for our firm. In cases where we are not seeking to be a competing bidder, we offer our support and services on a negotiated basis to other bidders that are seeking an experienced advisor and/or operator.
